Making the World’s Best Mead
White chocolate meads and Blueberry ciders are just the beginning of Superstition’s wild concoctions. This world renowned beverage producer makes some of the most innovative drinks ever crafted. Their crazy ideas typically begin with locally sourced honey, a key ingredient in mead production. A simple mead is comprised of high-quality honey mixed with water, which is fermented. But Superstition’s mead is far from this basic. Components have included raspberries, hazelnuts, cascara, vanilla bean, hatch chiles, cherries, and countless other exciting ingredients. It’s hard to find a mead from superstition that doesn’t contain at least one surprising piece. Not only does Superstition Meadery like to stand out with their ingredients, they also pride themselves in their barrel aging program. The depth and size of Superstition’s barrel program is truly something to marvel. Barrels previously used to produce brandy, rum, gin, wine, and whiskey all house aging meads at Superstition’s production facility. Whenever the crew is ready for a sample of their barrel aged creations, they pluck a nail and a stream of glorious liquid cascades into their glass. Ah what a life.

Some meads are bone dry, with so little sweetness they taste like a typical grape wine. Other meads, like the coveted Berry White, are so decadent and loaded with flavor it is like drinking a dessert. Even the range of mouthfeel is impeccable. Certain ciders will be light and sometimes even carbonated. Other meads are so luscious and viscous they remind drinkers of the honey that goes into the meads. Superstition also expands their innovation into ciders, including their Blueberry Spaceship Box which at one point won best cider in the world. Superstition also recently introduced a premium seltzer to their lineup.
