In the Valley’s ever-growing food scene, Federal Pizza has carved out a space as both a neighborhood staple and a forward-thinking concept. Born under the creative umbrella of Upward Projects—the same group behind Postino, Windsor, and Churn—Federal Pizza has long been known for blending high-quality food with an atmosphere that’s equal parts laid-back and intentional. And now, with the addition of a brand-new location in PV, the team is taking their signature blend of hospitality and flavor to even more guests.

The original Uptown Phoenix location, a converted First Federal Bank building, set the tone from the start. Its retro-modern design, wood-fired pizzas, and community-driven vibe made it a quick hit. But according to Lauren Bailey, Co-Founder and CEO of Upward Projects, the PV expansion wasn’t just about adding another dot on the map. “We wanted to create a space that keeps the heart of Federal Pizza but adapts to the neighborhood we’re joining. PV has its own energy, and we wanted this new location to feel like it belongs there,” Bailey shared.

That balance of consistency and adaptability is something Federal Pizza does particularly well. The menu carries over many of the crowd favorites—signature pizzas, shareable starters, and thoughtful sides—while also leaving room for seasonal specials and tweaks that reflect local tastes. Bailey explained, “It’s important for us to stay true to what people love about Federal while always keeping things fresh and exciting. The food has to deliver, but so does the overall experience.”

And it’s not just the food that’s winning people over. Federal’s happy hour remains one of the best-kept secrets in the city. From $6 pitchers of local beer to glasses of wine that won’t break the bank, it’s the kind of weekday ritual that has regulars coming back again and again. For me, it’s the perfect pairing before diving into one of their signature pies.

Speaking of pies, there’s one that always calls my name: The Flaming Lips. With its spicy red sauce, Ezzo pepperoni cups, soppressata salami, Gorgonzola, rosemary, and a drizzle of hot honey, it hits every note—spicy, salty, sweet, and rich. It’s a pizza that doesn’t just fill you up but keeps you reaching for that next slice, especially alongside a cold pint.

Federal Pizza’s success lies not just in its menu but in its ability to create spaces that feel like home. Whether it’s the retro charm of Uptown or the sleek energy of PV, each location feels intentional. And at the center of it all is a commitment to community, great food, and approachable hospitality. As Bailey summed up, “Our goal has always been simple: make a place people want to come back to, again and again.”

With its newest location now open and thriving, Federal Pizza proves that growth doesn’t have to mean losing sight of what made you special in the first place. For Phoenicians, it means more chances to gather, share a slice, and raise a glass to one of the Valley’s most beloved pizzerias.
